What people are saying about UWS…
Testimony: My Journey with United We Stand
My journey with United We Stand (UWS) began at a time when I was facing some of the most challenging moments in my life. I was dealing with the pressure of fulfilling probation-mandated community service hours while balancing a full-time job and ongoing medical issues. It felt like I was carrying an impossible load, but all of that changed when I was introduced to UWS.
One day my probation officer connected me to UWS, and from the moment I met Makayla Miller, things started to fall into place. She made sure I could fulfill my community service hours while accommodating my work schedule, which was a huge weight off my shoulders. But what I found at UWS was so much more than just a way to check off my hours.
Shortly after joining, I met Matt Miller, Makayla's husband, and what started as a simple introduction quickly became a life-changing connection. Matt and Makayla took the time to listen to my story — the struggles with my health, my goals for the future, and the challenges I was facing. They didn't just listen; they acted. They helped me find the right resources and connected me with a care manager, which made a world of difference in managing my medical issues.
Their support went far beyond the practical. When I was hospitalized, Matt went out of his way to pick up essentials from my home and even brought me extra supplies I hadn't thought to ask for. He helped me advocate for myself by asking the questions I needed answers to, which gave me the confidence to take control of my care. It was the kind of support I never expected but desperately needed.
UWS also opened doors for me that I never thought possible. They gave me the chance to contribute to their organization, first by helping with their website, and later by offering me a role as an Assistant Administrative. This role not only allowed me to complete my community service but also gave me a meaningful way to give back and help others in need - something that UWS stands for in every sense.
United We Stand didn't just help me — they helped my family, too. When my sister was in a dangerous situation, I knew I needed to get her out, especially with her young child in the mix. As soon as I told Matt, he guided me through the process, and before long, my sister and her baby were safe and receiving the support they needed. Today, she has her own apartment and is doing well, and I can't thank UWS enough for that.
Now, as I recover from a surgery I had long put off, I feel stronger and more supported than ever. My family is in a better place, and l'm able to move forward in life with a renewed sense of purpose. None of this would have been possible without the kindness, guidance, and unwavering support of Matt, Makayla, and the entire UWS team.
United We Stand isn't just an organization; it's a family that stands by you when you need them most. I will be forever grateful for the incredible difference they've made in my life.
